SWAMP LORD GENETICS (MARCH 2023)

1. WHO ARE YOU? TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY.

I’m Dalton, aka the Swamp Lord; and my life partner and I together own Swamp Lord Genetics. We’ve been breeding ever since 2018. We are a Northern MI family-based company, specializing in outdoor growing.

2. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BREEDING?

I’ve always been a lover of cannabis cultivation, working in multiple grows from a younger age to growing it on my own later on. The inspiration came naturally—I needed to know what would come of crossing some of my favorite strains, and if I could create something really special and groundbreaking. To smell, taste, appearance, growth performance, and overall effects.

3. WHAT IS YOUR PRIMARY METHOD OF GROWING?

We are mainly outdoor growers here at Swamp Lord Genetics. We are located close to the bridge in Northern Michigan, so sometimes growing out different strains can be quite tricky, as we have long winters and short summers. We normally start our plants in an indoor environment around February to get them a strong head-start for the growing season. We wait until Labor Day Weekend to transplant in our 30ftx40ft outdoor greenhouse. Our greenhouse is open on all sides with a hard plastic greenhouse roof. This allows pristine air circulation and for the plants to get a full outdoor experience without the threat of heavy rain and storm damage. We use organic dirt from our land and make a super soil with only organic fertilizers such as fish compost, household kitchen compost, bat guano, bone meal, and many others. We water with teas during the veg season and normally start bud harvest in October, and seed harvest comes a little later.

4. DESCRIBE WHAT MAKES YOUR GENETICS AND YOUR COMPANY UNIQUE.

We strive to create genetics that deliver flavors that are truly unique to your taste buds. From strains all across the globe, we like to incorporate flavors that you wouldn’t expect to blend, like GMO and fruity pine, or OG chemical and coffee. We don’t shy away from breeding with high CBD, as we’ve discovered that these plants introduce not only a fresh and different appearance to the genetics, but we value the medicinal parts of the plant as much as we do the high. We live and grow on 40 acres of Swamp in Northern Michigan, which as surprising as it may sound, is actually a little slice of heaven for Cannabis plants. We’ve discovered that growing in fabric pots directly in the swamp is a superb growing medium. When we’re not gardening, my partner and I are full time artists. We like to incorporate our physical canvas artwork into our designs, names, and packaging for our seed strains.

5. WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING TO ACHIEVE IN BREEDING? WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY ON BREEDING?

Our goals in breeding are really to hunt and select from strains that we genuinely enjoy. We like the crazy looking leaves in Freakshow, or the bright pink flowers in Pinkleberry. We enjoy medicinal CBD to ail our physical ailments, as well as nice mellow highs to soothe our minds. There will always be a public demand for high THC plants, which we also grow, but we are focused on what we find attractive and enticing in Cannabis, and we know there are plenty of consumers out there who share our vision. We want to use what our Mother Earth has provided us to craft something that is matchless and irreplaceable in the Cannabis world.

6. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS? TEN YEARS?

In future years, we see ourselves working our very first strains with new fresh genetics, always striving for something that is different from our past strains. We’re focused on incorporating more of our art into our designs, and are looking forward to bringing quality bulk seeds to the market at fair and affordable prices for pheno-hunters as well as the average grower.

7. WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CANNABIS?

Like many others, Cannabis has been a lifeline for me and my family. After a bad car accident when I was 16, I’ve had bulging discs in my back that make it hard for me to work, and a lot of the time, just live. If I didn’t have Cannabis, I’m not sure my life would be the same. This plant has brought my family together in ways I never thought possible, and continues to be the source of inspiration for our art and creative works.

8. WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR LINEUP?

One strain we’re most excited for is our Black Mandarain XL. It is a fast flowering, easy trim plant with amazingly euphoric effects. Our Alpine Joe is another favorite for her fast-growing ability and strong structure. Our two box sets, Temple of Queens and Frost in the Swamp, offer growers a bulk variety of our newest strains, perfect for pheno-hunting, commercial growing, or even the home-grower at a fair price. Freaky Deaky is another interesting strain to look out for. We’ve been working with this strain along with fellow growers to create a truly freaky and one-of-a-kind appearance.
